Tucker was more than a pet. He was Katie’s whole world. As he got older, Katie noticed subtle changes at first, moments of confusion. Then things got worse: Tucker developed Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD) and his once-never-miss-a-beat mind and bigger-than-life personality started slipping. He became restless at night and developed severe undiagnosable breathing issues that were heartbreaking to witness. His quality of life declined and Katie felt helpless.

She did everything she could—researching, consulting specialists, trying holistic alternatives, available supplements, and other treatments on the market—nothing truly targeted the aging systems that were failing him.

Then there was Tobbie, Katie’s other dog. She wanted to support his progressive disease proactively, to do everything in her power to strengthen his body before his condition worsened, but ran into the same problem: no great options for organic, species-specific, whole food functional nutrition aimed at decreasing inflammation existed for dogs.

When Tucker passed in 2021, Katie couldn’t shake the feeling that there should have been something better. Not just for him, not just for Tobbie—but for every dog. The idea for Futureproof sat in the back of her mind for years, until she met Dr. Ashley Burgos in 2024 and all the pieces clicked into place.

They had both faced the same problem from different perspectives. Ashley had spent years working in emergency medicine and preventive care, witnessing firsthand how the right nutrition could transform a dog’s health, to prevent and slow certain ailments—and like Katie, she struggled to find supplements and preventative options that actually work. The simple answer was quality nutrition for pets.

Futureproof was born—not as a brand, but as a necessity. A commitment to never settle. A relentless pursuit of better science, better standards, and better solutions for the pets we love.
